Stroke

At Martvic Exercise Therapy Centre, we provide comprehensive rehabilitation services for individuals who have suffered a stroke. Stroke, also known as a cerebrovascular accident, occurs when there is an interruption of blood flow to the brain, resulting in damage to brain cells. This can happen either due to a blood clot blocking a blood vessel in the brain (ischemic stroke) or when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and bleeds (hemorrhagic stroke).

After a stroke, many individuals experience a wide range of physical and cognitive challenges, including weakness or paralysis on one side of the body, difficulty with speech and language, problems with balance and coordination, and issues with memory and thinking. Our team of highly skilled physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists work together to develop a personalized treatment plan to address the unique needs of each individual.

In our stroke rehabilitation program, we use evidence-based treatment approaches to help our clients recover their physical and cognitive abilities. Our physical therapists focus on improving mobility, balance, and strength to help clients regain their independence and reduce their risk of falls. We use task-specific training, functional electrical stimulation, and other advanced techniques to help clients recover movement in affected limbs.

Our occupational therapists work with clients to address any difficulties they may have with daily activities, such as dressing, grooming, and eating. They also help clients improve their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, which can be affected by stroke.

Our speech-language pathologists focus on helping clients improve their communication skills and overcome any speech and language difficulties that may arise after a stroke. They also work with clients to improve their cognitive function, including memory, attention, and problem-solving skills.

At Martvic Exercise Therapy Centre, our goal is to help clients achieve the highest level of function and independence possible after a stroke. We believe in a collaborative approach to care, working closely with clients, their families, and other healthcare providers to ensure the best possible outcomes.
